A Hedonic Metric Approach to Estimating the Demand for Differentiated Products: An Application to Retail Milk Demand AgEcon

This article introduces the Hedonic Metric (HM) approach as an original method to model the demand for differentiated products. Using this approach, initially we create an n-dimensional hedonic space based on the characteristic information available to consumers. Next, we allocate products into this space and estimate the elasticities using distances. What distinguishes our model from traditional demand models such as Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) and Rotterdam Model is the way we link elasticities with product characteristics. APPLYING A METHOD OF PAIRED COMPARISONS TO MEASURE ECONOMIC VALUES FOR MULTIPLE GOODS SETS AgEcon

A method of paired comparison is adapted for use in estimating economic measures of value. The method elicits multiple binary choices for paired items in a choice set. Probability distributions and economic values are estimated nonparametrically and parametrically. The method is applied in an experimental context with a choice set composed of four private goods and several sums of money. The sample's median value estimtes for the goods are generally not different than the market prices for these goods. People who are in the market for a good value it higher than those not in the market for the good.

Estimation of Treatment Effect of Asthma Case Management Using Propensity Score Methods AgEcon

Objective: To estimate the treatment effect from participating in an asthma intervention that was part of the National Asthma Control Program. Study Setting: Data on children who participated in asthma case management (N=270) and eligible children who did not participate in case management (N=2,742) were extracted from a claims database. Study Design: We created 81 measures of health care utilization and 40 measures of neighborhood characteristics that could be related to participation in the program. Publication Effects in the Recreation Use Values Literature AgEcon

This paper provides an overview of an extensive recreation use values database that was developed to investigate the presence of and effects of publication selection bias in this literature. The recreation use values literature has a long history of value transfer applications, which may be affected by publication selection bias. The database consists of 325 studies providing 2,594 estimates of value for over 26 recreation activities for the US and Canada. Preliminary analyses show that document type (journal, agency report, consulting report, dissertation, etc.) result in statistically different mean values.
